Nodana skill

Use this agent skill to create and manage Nodana-hosted Phoenixd nodes. It covers node listing, creation, status checks, and lifecycle operations through the Nodana API.

Download the Nodana skill as a Markdown file and place it in the skills directory used by your agent. The skill describes API operations; it does not create an API key or grant access to your account.

Before you start

  1. Create an API key in the dashboard under Developers → API Keys. Give it only the permissions your agent needs.
  2. Configure NODANA_API_KEY in your agent runtime's secret store. Keep it out of chat, logs, and source control.
  3. Follow your agent's installation instructions to load the downloaded SKILL.md file.

The Nodana API key manages nodes. A node's Phoenixd password is a separate credential used for Lightning operations.

For a compact list of Nodana endpoints, required scopes, and response shapes, see the Nodana API text reference.

Example: create a node

You could ask an agent, “Create a Nodana node named Agent node and tell me when it is ready.” The skill directs it to call POST /nodes, save the one-time recovery words and passwords in your approved secret store, then check the node's status until it is ready. The agent should report the node ID and status without exposing credentials in the conversation.

If your agent cannot securely capture and store the one-time credentials, create the node in the dashboard and give the agent a key with nodes:read access instead. See Create a node and API error handling for response and retry details.

To inspect balances, create invoices, or send payments inside a ready node, use the Phoenixd skill. It uses the node endpoint and Phoenixd password rather than NODANA_API_KEY.
