Get Started/Your first node

Your first node

Now you've added some credit to your account let's launch a node:

Dashboard App

  1. The app can be found at https://app.nodana.io. You can login using your email address or using your GitHub account. You will need to confirm your email address if you choose the email option.

  2. Once logged in, click the "+" icon in the header to open the Create Node dialog.

  3. You can add an optional name and choose Limited access or Full access. Limited access lets the dashboard read node information and create invoices. Choose Full access if you also want to send payments from the app. This choice controls which password Nodana stores for the dashboard; you can use either password to call your node directly. Keep Auto Liquidity at "2m" for this demo, or choose "5m" or "10m". Auto Liquidity is explained on the Phoenixd website here.

  4. After clicking "Create Node", your node will begin to launch. It's usually ready within 30 seconds, but allow up to a minute. You will be notified on screen when it's ready.

  5. At creation, you will be shown the full and restricted Phoenixd passwords and your 12-word recovery seed. Save them securely. Nodana stores the password matching your access choice in encrypted form for dashboard operations. The other password and recovery seed are not retained in your node's account record after provisioning. See Security for details.

  6. Once you've copied / downloaded your credentials click "Continue" to return to the dashboard. Choose your node from the node switcher in the bottom left. You can click the icon to view the details of your node.

  7. The details page will give you your url - use this with your password to start accepting payments.

  8. If you need help with getting set up then feel free to drop us an email. We're happy to help.

CLI

You can also launch a node from a terminal with the Nodana CLI.

  1. Install the CLI:

    curl -fsSL https://nodana.io/cli | sh
  2. In the dashboard, open Developers → API Keys and create a key with Write enabled; Read is included automatically. Set it in your terminal, replacing the placeholder with your key:

    export NODANA_API_KEY="<your-api-key>"
  3. Create your node. You can change the name or omit --name to use an automatic name:

nod node create --name "My first node"

The command stores the restricted password for dashboard access by default. It returns the node ID, endpoint, passwords, and recovery words. Save the credentials and recovery words securely when they appear; later get and list commands do not show them again.

  4. Check your node's status using the ID returned by create:

    nod node get node-123

Replace node-123 with your node ID. If the status is still provisioning, wait a moment and run the command again. Once it shows ready, use the endpoint and Phoenixd password to connect your application.

See the CLI overview for more commands and options.
