Phoenixd skill

Use this agent skill to work with a Nodana-hosted Phoenixd node: inspect its balance, create Lightning invoices, check incoming payments, and send payments when your application permits them.

Download the Phoenixd skill as a Markdown file and place it in the skills directory used by your agent. The skill describes the Phoenixd HTTP API; it does not install software or grant access to a node.

Before you start

  1. Create a node and save the endpoint and passwords shown at creation. See Your first node.
  2. Give the agent runtime PHOENIXD_URL and PHOENIXD_PASSWORD through its secret configuration. Use the restricted password for reading node state and creating invoices. Keep the full-access password in a trusted service that enforces your spending policy.
  3. Follow the installation instructions for your agent to load the downloaded SKILL.md file.

The endpoint is the URL of your node, such as https://node-abcd.nodana.app:9740. Phoenixd uses HTTP Basic authentication with an empty username and the node password. The Nodana API key used to create or manage nodes is a separate credential and will not authenticate requests to Phoenixd.

Example: create an invoice

With the node URL and restricted password configured in the agent runtime, you can ask: “Create a 1,000 sat invoice for order 1042 and tell me its payment hash.” The skill directs the agent to call Phoenixd's POST /createinvoice endpoint with amountSat=1000, a description, and an optional externalId such as order-1042. It should return the invoice to you and use the payment hash to check its status later.

The skill does not enforce spending limits or approval rules. For agents that send payments, put a service between the agent and Phoenixd that checks the recipient, amount, budget, and request status before using the full-access password. See Agentic payments.

For the complete and current endpoint details, see the official Phoenixd HTTP API. The Nodana Phoenixd API guide explains which credential and endpoint to use.
